Getting a Reader Pass - visiting the library

Everyone is welcome to visit the Library. To use the Business & IP Centre resources you'll need a Library Reader Pass. You do not need a Reader Pass to attend a workshop or event.

To join, there are three easy steps:

1. Bring along two original forms of identity:

•  One showing your signature (e.g. bank or credit card, driving licence or passport)

•  Another one showing your home address (e.g. utility bill, bank statement or driving licence).

Please note that the following documents must not be older than three months: utility bill, bank/building society statement, credit card statement, HM revenue and customs statement, state pension book, benefit/family credit book, pay slip.

Further information please see:

2. Go to our registration office on the Upper Ground Floor, fill in a form and get your Reader Pass.

3. Start using the Business IP Centre.

The British Library has one of the most valuable collections in the world, so using us can be a little different from other libraries. Security is very stringent so no coats or bags can be brought in to any of our Reading Rooms, including the Business & IP Centre. Free lockers and a cloakroom are located on the Lower Ground floor. More information on conditions of use can be found here:

http://www.bl.uk/reshelp/inrrooms/stp/cond/conditions.html

Once you have your Reader Pass and have deposited any coats or bags, make your way to the Welcome Desk at the entrance of the Business and IP Centre. Entrance to the Centre is directly above Reader Registration on the First Floor.
