Strategic Marketing and Communications
We are setting the standards across the information and heritage industries. In the past year alone, we have had a royal opening of our largest ever exhibition ‘Sacred’. We have launched the award winning Business & IP Centre, where entrepreneurs and innovators come for advice on how to turn their ideas into a success. And we have won national awards for our communications work and our interactive exhibition system Turning the Pages™.
We are continually building on this success. Year on year, the number of page hits on our websites rises by 50%. Sustaining this success rate in the web 2.0 networking space is one of our major goals. We need to show we’re as vital a player in the world of digital information as we have been in the world of print. The recent public launch of Microsoft Vista at the Library demonstrated this admirably. Bill Gates joined our Chief Executive on stage where they inaugurated the joining together online of two Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks. It was the first time these pages had been together since they were in Leonardo’s hands in the 15th century.
We’re a great 21st-century brand. What we do – collecting and sharing knowledge – adds value to people’s lives, and we’re doing this in increasingly open, innovative and digital ways. Our department helps to ensure that the limitless expertise and knowledge within the Library is fully utilised all around the world – to make medical breakthroughs, launch the companies of the future or write a masterpiece.
