Understanding Political Campaigns

As part of Campaign! Make an Impact, new resources have been created to help students understand political campaigns.

New Campaign! Make an Impact resources are online now to help young people understand modern day general elections. The resources help young people understand why we have elections today, how politicians get their message across and the importance of voting today. British Library sources show how ordinary people campaigned for the right to vote through the Chartist and Suffragette movements. Now politicians campaign to us in order to secure our vote.

The main Campaign! Make an Impact programme explains how campaigns work, how people can change things and then equips young people to run their own campaigns. Understanding political campaigns can be used alongside it or independently. New activities include:

  • Are you going to vote in the next election?
  • Manifestoes
  • How do Politicians Make themselves Heard?
  • Rate your politician – campaign tactics
  • Election campaign
  • Election voting – how low turn out and corruption changes the result

Suitable for use from Key Stage 2 upwards.
