Hans Christian Andersen - Exhibition Guide
Jackie Wullschlager
Hans
Christian Andersen is one of the most enduring children's writers
and holds a unique place in our collective imagination. Many of
his stories, such as 'The Ugly Duckling' and 'The Little Mermaid'
are immediately recognisable to both children and adults.
With illustrations from many of Andersen's stories, as well as
images from the British Library exhibition, this book explores his
life, from its humble beginnings to his overwhelming success in
England.
Jackie Wullschlager, an Andersen expert and author of his biography,
provides the reader with an introduction to Andersen's life and
works, explores the translations of his stories and considers his
influence on other literary talent of his time.
