FDA BOOK CONSERVATION COURSE

If you are interested in a career in book conservation, Camberwell College of Arts is offering a new two-year Book Conservation course developed in collaboration with the British Library.

This foundation degree is directed towards a career in book conservation. It prepares for a variety of possible futures through its attention to the broader context of conservation as a profession.

The course has been designed by conservation course leaders at Camberwell College of Art, in close collaboration with the British Library, and staff from other book conservation departments working in major cultural institutions. Practical book conservation work placements for second-year students will be shared amongst the British Library and other institutions with book conservation departments. Training at the British Library will be provided by experts working in book conservation. The course has been created to help address the need to increase the number of conservators specialising in the field of book conservation.

CONSERVATION INTERNSHIPS AT THE BRITISH LIBRARY (Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund)

To be considered for an internship within conservation, applicants must have completed a BA in conservation including some specialisation in book conservation. An MA in book conservation is desirable. Applicants must have practical experience in the field of book conservation and will need to show evidence of their practical work in the form of written reports.

SOUND ARCHIVING INTERNSHIPS AT THE BRITSH LIBRARY (Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Ernest Cook Trust, the D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, the Derek Butler Trust and the American Trust for the British Library. )

Six annual internships are available, offering 10 weeks training, for two years from September 2008.

In recognition of the growing need for specialised training in sound archiving, the British Library has an internship programme aimed at developing the practical skills of archivists and technicians. Interns will benefit from a valuable learning experience and from studying an operational sound archive working to international archival standards.

Bursaries will be available each year for two years; there will be six bursaries of £2500 available for 10 week internships.
