The
Humanities collection, comprising both legal
deposit and purchased material, covers both current practice
and the history of libraries internationally. Information retrieval,
digital libraries, library management, reference services and cataloguing
are a few of the many topics covered in depth. Stock from the British
Library Information Sciences Service-BLISS, formerly the Library
Association Library, was incorporated in 1997. Recently acquired
material is detailed in a quarterly accessions
list.
CILIP
members are entitled to a reader pass upon proof of membership,
and subject to the identification and other requirements for reader
registration.The focus for librarianship is the Humanities
Reading Room. Reference material, recent monographs and latest
journal issues are on open access in Humanities - floor 2. Older
items can be ordered using the British Library Integrated Catalogue.
Library

Library Literature and Information Science Full Text, Information
Research Watch International ,Library
Information Science & Technology Abstracts and ALISA
(Australian Library & Information Science Abstracts) databases
are available online, as are collections of electronic
journals. Our Reader
Guide (PDF format) 37kb gives further information about using
our onsite services and key sources of information.
Reader Services Enquiries
will provide a first line remote enquiry service to those requiring
general information about the Library's reading
room services, carry out catalogue checks and make advance
orders for readers from closed access stock. More complex enquiries
will be referred to staff of the Librarianship
and Information Sciences Service.
Reproductions of items in the collection can be purchased, subject
to UK copyright legislation and preservation guidelines. Self-service
copying facilities are available in the Humanities Reading Room.
