You may bring your own laptop computer or PDA into the Reading Rooms
and connect to the power supply. The following conditions apply:
- You may not use your laptop computer or PDA in the laptop-free
areas.
- You may not connect your equipment to the Library's network
or download any item from our electronic resources to it.
- The Library will not accept responsibility for any resulting
damage to your equipment.
- The Library reserves the right to carry out safety checks on
your equipment as necessary.
- Computer bags are not allowed in the Reading Rooms and laptops
should be carried in a clear British Library plastic bag, if considered
necessary.
Some of the desks have security "D" rings attached to them,
to secure laptops whilst readers are absent.
Laptop-free areas
Laptop-free areas are provided in:
- Humanities - floor 1 (seats 2235-2239, 2250-2259, 2270-2279, 2290-2299,
2310-2319, 2330-2339, 23502359, 2370-2379)
- Humanities - floor 2 (seats 3210-3233)
- Manuscripts (seats 1082-1089)
- Asian & African Studies (seats 8118-8123)
- Rare Book & Music (seats 50-137)
- Maps (desks intended for consulting open-access items, including the
catalogue consulting area and the e-resource workstations)
- Business & IP Centre - floor 2 (a few
desks opposite the Reference Enquiry Desk)
There are no laptop-free desks in the Science Reading Rooms.
